About Feeling Welcome
Can you hear it?
It is the sound of community and great musical experiences.
When there is a communal dinner and concert at the music venue Høloftet, every single guest receives a handshake and a warm "welcome." Yes, even all 136 guests on a sold-out night.
You wouldn't normally think that a converted hayloft at the end of a gravel road, far away from anything resembling a big city, could attract the country’s biggest musicians—but Høloftet can.
Bent and Hanne believe it is all about relationships. The artists often stay overnight at the hosts' private home, and many great ideas have blossomed over late-night snacks. The audience is also welcomed like part of the family. In a true "silver wedding anniversary" atmosphere, as Bent puts it, the guests sit at the long tables, passing the potatoes and chatting about everything and nothing.
When the clock strikes 8 PM, the chatter fades, because it is all about the music. A dedicated audience is also part of the recipe for success. Høloftet might not be a market leader when it comes to performance fees, but it certainly is when it comes to community, presence, intimacy, and great musical experiences.
As one musician wrote in the guestbook: "I left a piece of my heart at Høloftet. I will return when I need to become whole again."
